Makes 2 tars.
Ingredients:
2 tsp olive oil
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
2 red apples (such as Braeburn or Gala), cut into small pieces
2 sheets frozen puff pastry (from a 17.3 oz package), thawed
1/2 cup crème fraiche or sour cream (you can buy creme fraiche or make it but you need to make it the day before and leave it on the counter over-night)
One hour before you are ready to start the party, take the pastry out of the fridge to thaw it. Also cut parchment to line two cookie sheets with sides.
Heat oven to 400 degrees F. heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden brown, 15 minutes or more. Stir in the apples, 1/2 t. salt and 1/4 t. pepper and cook until tender, about 3 minutes.
Place each sheet of pastry on parchment lined cookie sheets and prick it all over with a fork. Spread with crème fraiche, leaving a 1/2 inch border. Top with the onion/apple mixture and bake until the pastry is crisp and browned, 30 to 35 minutes. Cut into pieces before serving.
